Mary Vallis Sep 27, 2010 – 9:42 AM ET | Last Updated: Sep 27, 2010 11:52 AM ETThere has been talks about Rob Ford, Toronto's mayor, not going to the Toronto Gay Pride Parade.  As the mayor he should be representing all of the people who voted or did not voted for him. In this case, people expect our elected officials to do the right thing and participate in events whether they support it based on their personal beliefs or not.

However, these days there is a problem with separating work life and office life especially with the public opinion having such a strong weight on the decision you make.  As much as anyone should have their private life, being in this type of job, unfortunately does not excuse the mayor's personal life.   Rob Ford signed up for this and is expected to participate just like the previous leaders.

It's a big event and it brings in a lot of money to Toronto so in some way Rob Ford should be happy there is such a thing as gay parade.

Rob Ford is not obligated to go to the Pride parade.  The only people making a fuss about it are people who are still bitter that he won the mayoral election.  Any chance they have to discredit him they will take.

Even though the majority of Torontonians probably feels he should show up and say a couple of good words to promote the event, they don't really care one way or another as most Torontonians would not even show up to the parade themselves.

So this big fuss is all about a minority of loud people making a big deal.

The Toronto Star is also making a big deal about it because Rob Ford has vowed not to speak to the Star due to their obvious dislike for mr. Ford.  So they are kind of acting like a jilted lover.

So should Rob go? Well only if he wants to....
