Youtube

As we conclude our multi-part series on how Youtube has affected society around the world today and will continue into the future, we realized that it is a force for both good or evil.  This sounds like a cliche that just came out from a comic book, but when we break down what we mean by a force for good or evil, we will get a better understanding as to the clarity of this statement.

Youtube is a force for good  because it provides us  with countless hours of entertainment, it can also teach and help us learn in ways never thought possible, it opens doors for new, emerging and unorthodox stars (actors, musicians, comedians, directors, [you fill in the blank] here) that would have never happened through the conventional route or even fast-tracked them, it creates opportunities and it keeps our government, whether this be law enforcement or other branches, on their toes, almost in check knowing that someone somewhere is recording and will most likely be uploaded onto Youtube for the entirely world to see.

Like the flip-side to a coin, Youtube can also be used for the darker side too by perpetuating subtle stereotypes, hatred and propaganda channeled through a mass media medium that is able to reach many people on a critical scale level in such a short period of time.  This is also the reason why it can be dangerous tool for would be hate and fear mongers.

Despite the dark side, Youtube's good side, at this moment, outshines the negative and we, as a community, must defend and keep it that way.  Any threat to Youtube must be met with the community's rallying cries of non-interference and freedom of expression as we have started to see some government who are totalitarians or authoritarians or leaning towards one of the aforementioned as they begin to limit communications deemed detrimental to the safeguard of the nation, rightly or wrongly justified.

Youtube is the glue that connects people globally in so many different ways and on so many levels and we should always keep it that way.
